Computers Come Alive

Apple Vision Pro and your augmented future

Apple’s Vision Pro is almost here.

No idea what it is? Well Apple advertises it as a “spatial computer”

To explain what it is, it’s probably easier to show you than tell you.

If you just scrolled past that video, I’d recommend you go back and watch it.

Genuinely.

If you just watched it, take a second to realise… that thing launches February 2nd.

Dystopian isn’t it?

Yes I know it’s too expensive for anybody to afford.

Yes I know Meta Quest 3 is 10x cheaper.

But this isn’t a tech newsletter

So let yourself be carried away in the fantasy for a moment.

Playing a game of chess on the side when that relative continues to bore your ear off.

That’s right, more disconnected than ever from your fellow human beings, utopia is coming.

Being called by your boss to tune into the meeting on your walk to Starbucks.

Tuning in to the video feed of your home to see that your children are okay.

Almost all of these things you can already do on your phone but breaking that added barrier from your tiny glass screen on an aluminium brick to your screen now being limited by little more than your imagination.

The industries that are about to be disrupted are countless.

Just in that introductory video (it’s 7 months old btw), current versions of movie theatres, mindfulness apps and every work-from-home app are all obsolete.

Our minds were diverted towards AI when the AR revolution was taking place quietly.

Ultra High Net Worth individuals in China are paying over twice the price of the Vision Pro to try the device early.

I’m sure it will find it hard to live up to its own expectations but the punchline I’m trying to leave you off with today isn’t about an upcoming tech product.

Its to remind to that the future is coming much faster than you imagine.

I’m an optimist and thus I’ll go out on a limb and state that we are once again about to enter an age of unprecedented prosperity.

Don’t let the war-mongering and pessimist headlines bring you down.
