The era of decentralized news

AI won’t replace you, but a person using AI might. That’s why 500,000+ professionals read The Rundown– the free newsletter that keeps you updated on the latest AI news, tools, and tutorials in 5 minutes a day.

Mainstream news is dead.

Yes I know, I’m not the first one to tell you that.

Trump, Elon and even Andrew Tate got there first.

But I want to talk about what is going to replace that gap in the market.

After all, we have to get informed somehow right?

You take away a man’s religion, they’ll turn you into their religion.

If mainstream news is dead, something must take its place.

That’s the era of decentralized news.

Any man living near the border can now whip out their phone and record what’s happening on the frontlines.

Imagine reading first hand accounts of people at the Battle of the Somme, D-Day or Stalingrad.

For the first time, we’re seeing real time updates on conflicts around the world from people who are in the thick of it.

Citizen journalism and decentralized news allows us that.

And it’s not just extreme situations, this is a new normal.

People now give more weight to certain social media accounts and their analysis of a political event than Fox News.

People trust big crypto accounts on X more than they trust Jim Cramer.

News is more personalized.

People don’t just want to know about the latest twist in the American election, they want to hear Candace Owens’ take on it.

This movement is partly due to necessity (mainstream news sucks) and partly due to novelty.

There are certain things that people would never learn about before because the media was busy with a different headline but with decentralized news, there are so many sources to go to, that you can always find somebody talking about the topic you’re interested in.

Do drawbacks exist? Of course.

It’s only going to get harder and harder to combat fake news and misinformation with the mass-adoption of AI deepfakes.

But all in all, it’s a step forward.

A step forward for the freedom of speech, a step away from media blackouts and a step towards a more interesting world in general.
